Driven by voices he could neither ignore nor control, Karlton Dean Reimer stabbed strangers Dennis and Bernadette Lidgett to death in their Lorette-area home. Reimer has admitted to stabbing the elderly couple, but in a Monday ruling jointly endorsed by Crown prosecutors and his defence lawyers, was found not criminally responsible for the March 2021 killings. A Holland-area poultry farmer is among the producers who helped Manitoba Egg Farmers break the record for most eggs donated to Harvest Manitoba in a single month. Miranda Leybourne reports.

On Nov. 22, 1957: The Winnipeg Free Press reported Sadie Hawkins Day in Winnipeg had grown to “fantastic proportions” and that spending would likely surpass that of New Year’s Eve. Winnipeg Blue Bombers general manager Bill Boivin said the team had received enough “good luck” telegrams to “paper the roof of Edmonton’s biggest hotel” ahead of the Western Interprovincial Football Union series. Prime minister John Diefenbaker told the House of Commons he would share secret details of the integrated defence arrangements between Canada and the U.S., if the Opposition Liberals insisted.
