COVID-19 crisis: The Manitoba government will release the latest COVID-19 numbers at the daily news conference early this afternoon. The province announced 12 deaths Sunday and said 288 people were in hospital with the virus, including 52 in intensive care. READ MORE
Secret meeting in Saudi Arabia: Israeli media is reporting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travelled to Saudi Arabia for a secret meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Subsidy applications start: Businesses can now apply for a new commercial rent-relief program, the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy. It replaces an earlier program that relied on landlords to apply for aid, The Canadian Press reports. READ MORE

Ready to roll: Via Rail is preparing to launch a weekly passenger run between Winnipeg and Vancouver next month. A spokesman said the plans aren’t final. Alert app made for newer phones: The app designed to alert users when they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 doesn’t work on older phones, Katie May reports. Only four per cent of Manitobans who tested positive were given codes to enter on the app, and ever fewer have used the codes. READ MORE

On Nov. 23, 1915: The Manitoba Free Press reported that a Canadian explosive company’s works near Parry Sound, Ont., were destroyed in an explosion thought to be the work of foreign saboteurs; remarkably, there was no loss of life, as all 700 employees had left the buildings. In The Pas, government representatives met with members of the community to discuss matters relating to the northern region of the new Manitoba. In London, the Earl of Derby, speaking to correspondents regarding Britain’s recruitment campaign, was confident Britain and her allies would be victorious in the Great War.
