On Nov. 25, 1972: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Museum of Man and Nature was in the process of putting together a plaster skeleton of the long-extinct giant ground sloth. Two Winnipeg city councillors at a tri-level conference on urban affairs in Toronto said that federal and provincial governments were told they must loosen their hold on “inflationary tax bases” if municipal governments were to assume their designated roles in urban development.
