Shop online, province urges: The Manitoba government said in a news release this morning that people should stay home and shop online on Black Friday, noting “personnel empowered to enforce public health orders will be out in full force.” The Costco on McGillivray Avenue was given a $5,000 ticket Thursday for selling non-essential items, the release states. COVID-19 crisis: Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief public health officer, will announce the latest COVID-19 numbers at a news conference. Manitoba and Winnipeg reached their highest five-day positivity rate to date Thursday, at 14.8 per cent, and a record 307 people were in hospital being treated for COVID-19. On Nov. 27, 1965: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost the Grey Cup game to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 22-16. Two more people who attended a fowl supper in Portage la Prairie were in hospital in Winnipeg with typhoid; the two new cases brought the total number of persons infected at the Oct. 3 gathering to 10. In Los Angeles, an armoured car guard killed the driver of a holdup vehicle and shot down two accomplices in a gun battle on the city’s streets. Britain was reportedly preparing to send troops to aid Zambia against Rhodesia.
