A local towing company has filed a counterclaim against the City of Winnipeg over its recent lawsuit alleging the firm had bilked taxpayers.

On the bright side
Have you ever seen a Christmas tree driven off in a convertible? Blair Atkinson has. That’s just one of the many stories volunteers at the Elmwood-based club have accumulated since the first tree sale was held in 1979.
Last year, volunteers sold more than 500 trees and raised around $7,000. That money funded scholarships at local high schools, supported youth sports, sent children to camp, and aided Manitoba Harvest and the Christmas Cheer Board. Aaron Epp has the story.

On Nov. 27, 1928: The Manitoba Free Press reported in London, general uneasiness regarding King George V’s illness due to a lung ailment was prevalent, with local newspapers referring to the monarch’s “unsatisfactory condition”; one medical expert, judging from the coverage, said the king was likely suffering from dry pleurisy.
