On Nov. 7, 1935: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Toronto police had arrested a suspect in the murder of a young woman; after 11 hours of questioning, police laid charges against him. A huge Ethiopian army was massing south of Markale, for a desperate stand against advancing Italian forces. Noted U.S. evangelist “Billy Sunday” died at the age of 72 in Chicago. As prime minister William Lyon Mackenzie King arrived in Washington D.C. to meet with U.S. president Franklin Roosevelt, hopes were high that the two countries could reach a reciprocal trade pact.
