Deadline deal: Ottawa and Washington agreed Sunday night to add Canada to a trade deal reached this summer between the U.S. and Mexico. This morning, U.S. President Donald Trump praised the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement as “wonderful,” “great” and “historic.” It’s expected the Liberal government will discuss the deal at a news conference today. Quebecers cast ballots: Quebec residents are going to the polls, with the centre-right Coalition Avenir Québec seeking to unseat the incumbent Liberal government. Sombre ceremony: A sunrise ceremony is happening in Las Vegas to mark the anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Fifty-eight people were killed, 413 people were wounded by gunfire, and at least 456 were injured fleeing an outdoor country music concert. READ MORE

On Oct. 1, 1952: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that 34 candidates had tossed their hat into the ring in the upcoming municipal election for Winnipeg, set for Oct. 22; three candidates were campaigning for mayor (one incumbent and two challengers), 18 were vying for 10 aldermanic seats, and 13 others were hoping to win school board seats.
