On Oct. 10, 1913: The Manitoba Free Press reported that a delegation of nearly 20 businessmen from Winnipeg would see and hear much during their visit to Chicago, Ill., where they would also be hosted at a banquet by Chicago’s mayor and Association of Commerce. An electrical engineer had just returned to Ottawa after a thousand-mile canoe expedition in Manitoba’s north, and praised the area for its rich potential for hydroelectric generating capacity.
