On Oct. 12, 1911: The Manitoba Free Press reported that all three major railways operating in Western Canada were to have equal rights in the union stockyards in Winnipeg. A man was set to face trial on charges of forging Winnipeg Electric Street Railway car tickets. In Tripoli, troops from Italy’s expeditionary force disembarked as part of the ongoing conflict between that country and Turkey; word out of Berlin was that an armistice would soon be declared, but London had no confirmation of that.
