On Oct. 25, 1933: The Winnipeg Free Press reported German authorities had arrested London Telegraph correspondent Noel Penter on “suspicion of espionage”; the British consul general was denied permission to speak with the imprisoned journalist. Three prominent Nebraska political leaders spoke out against the National Recovery Act, saying farmers were increasingly seeing prices go up while their incomes went down.
