On the bright side
Two contestants on The Great Canadian Baking Show, a spinoff of the popular British TV program, found they both had a connection: living in Winnipeg. And rather than devloving into cutthroat competition, Nigel Batchelor and Jomar Manzano became friends. “Oddly enough, it didn’t feel like a competition at all,” Batchelor says. “It’s just such an amazingly loving experience.” Eva Wasney has the story.

On Oct. 7, 1960: The Winnipeg Free Press reported Manitoba agreed to a federal proposal for a stage-by-stage approach to constitutional reform, but urged that Canada not be left indefinitely in the initial stage. West Berlin disclosed that it was enlarging its anti-Communist security forces. Winnipeg viewers would be able to watch Have Gun, Will Travel and Danger Man on television that evening, but not the second of four U.S. presidential debates between Republican candidate Richard Nixon and Democratic candidate John F.
