Evacuees arrive: About 1,000 evacuees from wildfires threatening three remote northern Manitoba reserves arrived at the RBC Convention Centre Thursday, which is being used as a temporary shelter. No crimes committed: There’s no evidence a crime occurred when two pairs of Manitoba men were switched shortly after birth at Norway House Indian Hospital in 1975, the RCMP says. A separate probe ordered by Health Canada also concluded the switches were probably accidental, very likely because newborns weren’t tagged with wrist and ankle bands. Alexandra Paul reports. Deal with faculty a first: The university and its faculty association announced Thursday they have reached a tentative agreement on a four-year deal. Risky business: Alex Forrest, president of United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, says the city isn’t doing enough to shut down illegal rooming houses that put residents and emergency crews at risk. “It’s a death trap created by these slum landlords,” he said.
