Free Press Head Start for Sept. 1

Good morning.

Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen will be sworn in as Manitoba’s 23rd premier sometime today. He will replace Brian Pallister, who will resign as of 8 a.m. Goertzen, believed to be the first Mennonite to hold the office, will be one of Manitoba’s shortest-serving premiers. The Progressive Conservatives are set to pick a new party leader and premier on Oct. 30.

Today is the first day of September, and the 30 km/h speed limit in school zones resumes this morning. Pay attention so you don’t get a ticket.

(I’m taking a sick day. Copy editor David Fuller has written much of the remainder of this bulletin.)
