Left in limbo: Riley Mikkelson’s football dreams are on hold after Murdoch MacKay Collegiate scrapped its program because of a lack of players shortly before the Manitoba High School Football League season started last week. Among many accomplishments in the field, Wein is credited with revitalizing Marvel’s X-Men, co-creating new characters that turned it into one of the most popular comics in the industry in the 1970s and ’80s, as well as with editing Alan Moore’s iconic Watchmen series for DC, which is seen as one of the transformative superhero works of the late 20th century.

On Sept. 11, 1970: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Manitoba’s local government boundaries commission recommended remaking Greater Winnipeg into nine cities, instead of the then-current seven cities, four municipalities and on one town. A pedestrian skyway along Graham Avenue was key to the $50-million Centrepoint development (what would later be called the Winnipeg Convention Centre).
