Kirby case: Jazz musician and former University of Manitoba professor Steve Kirby has been charged with sexual assault. City scraps sign: A sign proclaiming the city’s highest hill “Garbage Hill,” in letters similar to the famous sign on the Hollywood Hills, was removed Monday shortly after people began noticing it. On Sept. 11, 1931: The Manitoba Free Press reported that in a so-called “budget of sacrifice” the chancellor of the exchequer in Britain delivered a balanced budget. Two trans-Pacific fliers, Don Moyle and C.A. Allen, were still missing; reports of unidentified aircraft spotted at widely separated locations in the northern Pacific included one from Whitehorse. Two Winnipeg girls completed a 2,000-mile hike ending in Montreal, Que., 15 minutes before their allotted three-week time for the trek was up. READ MORE
