Big winners at last night’s Emmy awards were “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” in an uplifting evening ceremony that stood in contrast to those series’ sometimes darker narrative tones. And Lee Jung-jae of “Squid Game” became the first Asian to win the Emmy for best drama series actor.

On the bright side

After chemical fumes from work on a floor in a Birmingham, Ala., kennel forced an evacuation, some dogs housed on the second floor could only be taken to a rooftop play area. But that didn’t stop firefighters from extending a ladder and rescuing all 13 of them. The Associated Press reports.

On Sept. 13, 1937: The Winnipeg Free Press reported the Blue Bombers’ hopes were riding high after an 11-1 victory against the Calgary Bronks. Britain and France would supply 60 destroyers to a joint nine-country force to attack pirate submarines in the Mediterranean Sea.
