• MPs return to the House of Commons, The Canadian Press Reports. Here are five things to watch for as Parliament gets underway this week.
• The African Movie Festival kicks off today and will feature 20 narrative features, short films and documentaries focused on stories from the continent, as well as 20 short films from local filmmakers of all ethnic and national backgrounds. Ben Waldman has more on the festival here.
• Noah Reid plays the Burton Cummings Theatre, 364 Smith St., tonight at 8 p.m. Tickets $53-$61 at Ticketmaster.

Stacey Soldier has become the first Anishinaabe woman to serve as president of the Manitoba Bar Association.
When Soldier rose to the position last week, having served as the MBA’s vice-president last year, it was just the latest step in a burnished career. Since being called to the Bar in 2008, she has worked in many key roles, including serving as co-counsel for the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs at the National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

On the bright side
Hundreds of runners, walkers and cyclists flooded Assiniboine Park Sunday to remember Terry Fox’s legacy and honour their own loved ones affected by cancer.
The 45th annual Terry Fox Run kicked off by the park pavilion at 10 a.m. Sunday. Manitoba donors raised more than $81,000 for cancer research this year. Malak Abas reports.

On Sept. 15, 1928: The Manitoba Free Press reported in Rockford, Ill., a tornado killed 30 people, injured at least 150, and destroyed many factories in the city’s industrial district. Manitoba premier John Bracken was aboard a Canada Airways De Havilland plane that landed in Calgary; the express passenger aircraft had made the trip from Regina in six hours and 40 minutes.
