The family of “a kind and gentle giant” is grief-stricken as officials try to determine what kind of animal killed the 21-year-old man in western Manitoba.
Moses Campeau was walking on a road to a friend’s house in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, about 600 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, when he was fatally injured Sept. 9, his mother, Paula Campeau, said Monday.
“Moses was a kind and gentle giant,” she said. “He was a person who (people) would ask to come and help them, and he would go without even hesitating.” Chris Kitching has the story.

Manitoba’s new phys-ed and health curriculum pilot puts an emphasis on a child’s online habits and experiences.
“It is really good to see online privacy being recognized as a health and wellness skill,” said Matthew Johnson, director of education at MediaSmarts, a national charity that designs resources for teachers to build digital literacy. Maggie Macintosh has more here.

On Sept. 15, 1952: The Winnipeg Free Press reported in Port Arthur, the Lakehead grain handlers’ negotiating committee had rejected out of hand the compromise offer made them by employers in Winnipeg a week earlier. A group of seven airmen from the RCAF station at Gimli was charged with the theft of $15,000 worth of clothing and supplies from air force stores.
