The weather is cooling off again as we head into the long weekend, and there’s some good news for those who are driving to the lake or just running errands in the city in their car: gas prices are the lowest they’ve been since late February.

A Winnipeg man has been charged with first-degree murder in a 2020 homicide, but the victim’s family is still waiting for answers. Aaron Mousseau, 41, was arrested and charged Tuesday in the slaying of 56-year-old Bud Paul after a lengthy probe by three police agencies. Erik Pindera and Chris Kitching have the story.

On Sept. 2, 1975: The Winnipeg Free Press reported Egypt and Israel had signed an agreement that committed both nations to cooperation; U.S. secretary of state Henry Kissinger said he hoped it would lead to further steps to peace between the two countries. Ecuador’s capital, Quito, was reportedly calm a day after a failed attempt by the military chief to overthrow the government of president Guillermo Rodriguez Lara. A key committee of the International Monetary Fund, led by Canada’s finance minister, reached agreement to phase out the role of gold in the international monetary system.
