COVID-19 crisis: Dr. Brent Roussin, the province’s chief public health officer, will give a news conference about the latest COVID-19 numbers this afternoon. Twenty-nine cases were announced Sunday, including 23 in Winnipeg. READ MORE
‘Great season’ in goal: The Vezina Trophy for the NHL’s best goaltender will be presented this evening. Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck, Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy and Boston’s Tuukka Rask are the nominees. Stella’s on strike: Workers at the Stella’s restaurant on Sherbrook Street are on strike and were set to begin picketing there at 7 a.m. The original Stella’s location on Osborne Street, the only other location that was unionized, closed in May. On Friday, Stella’s announced its airport location is closing Oct. 16. Julia-Simone Rutgers reports on how it will be missed by travellers and people who work at the airport. READ MORE
Cup final continues: Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final between the Dallas Stars and the Tampa Bay Lightning begins in Edmonton at 7 p.m. The Stars lead the series 1-0 after a 4-1 win Thursday night. READ MORE
Traffic notes: The Arlington Bridge closed for maintenance for two weeks starting at 6 a.m today. The Jubilee Overpass at Pembina Highway will be closed for street lighting repairs from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

On Sept. 21, 1960: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that British Commonwealth nations including Canada, New Zealand, Ceylon and South Africa urged Great Britain not to join the European Common Market. In Canada, unemployment reached 322,000, a postwar high for the month of August. Soviet leader Nikita Kruschev was apparently pleased at the changing composition of the United Nations, as 13 new African countries and Cyprus were admitted; U.S. president Dwight Eisenhower extended his stay in New York in order to talk with some of the government leaders attending the UN General Assembly. Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kennedy pledged he would lead the U.S. to “out-do” the Soviet Union and prove to the world the U.S. “is the wave of the future.”
