On Sept. 24, 1928: The Manitoba Free Press reported that the missing E.A. Godfrey and his three companions, who had been attempting a flight from Vancouver to Ottawa, had been found 100 miles from Peace River town by Gen. A.D. McRae; dense smoked had caused a forced landing and Godfrey’s aircraft had crashed into the Peace River. In Madrid, Spain, a fire in a theatre caused many deaths, including those trampled in the rush to exit the theatre; the death toll was believed to be as high as several hundred. READ MORE
