Close call: An annual memorial honouring fallen peace officers took place Sunday at the legislative grounds, the morning after a city police officer was stabbed and seriously injured in a home in the Maples. Shining a light on sex trafficking: A screening of Human Trafficking: Canada’s Secret Shame, produced by the Joy Smith Foundation, is taking place at 10 a.m. at the Manitoba RCMP headquarters on Portage Avenue. The documentary explains how traffickers lure young people into the sex trade.

Still suspended: An Appeal Court hearing for Tousif Ahmed, a nurse whose licence was suspended despite being acquitted of sexually assaulting a patient, is scheduled for today. The ruling stems from an incident at Victoria General Hospital’s emergency department in 2014. Jane Gerster will be at the court hearing.

Camp cuts: The Winnipeg Jets cut 13 players from their training camp roster Sunday, including goaltender Michael Hutchinson, who must clear waivers before joining the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. On Sept. 25, 1971: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Winnipeg monarchists gave royal couple Princess Anne and Lord Snowdon their warmest welcome so far in the city at Assiniboine Park. The Manitoba government planned a $4.5-million office building and $1.2-million parking facility as part of a $45-million program of capital work acceleration aimed at offsetting winter unemployment. Manitoba premier Ed Schreyer called on the prime minister to hold a meeting with the country’s premiers to address the nationwide unemployment crisis. READ MORE
