Firefighter’s wife alleged abuse: A martial arts instructor charged with sexual offences was accused of physical abuse by his wife decades ago, before he was hired as a firefighter. Manuel Ruiz’s wife claimed in a divorce petition filed in 1985 that he beat her regularly. She later dropped the petition, and Ruiz went on to join the Winnipeg fire department and open his own jiu-jitsu studio. Katie May reports. READ MORE
