On Sept. 6, 1996: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that power lines downed by a storm could put Winnipeg at risk of a blackout, and Manitoba Hydro advised customers to cut back on their use of electricity. Manitoba’s senior politicians considered a proposal that would see the construction of a multi-use sports facility that included a 7,500-seat baseball park at The Forks.
