The Goldeyes host the Fargo Moorhead Redhawks at Shaw Park tonight as the American Association championship playoffs begin. The Goldeyes are the third seed in the West Division. The first-round series will be a best-of-three sprint to see who moves on to play the defending champions, the Kansas City Monarchs, or the Lincoln Saltdogs. Joshua Frey-Sam reports.

On Sept. 7, 1936: The Winnipeg Free Press reported Spanish loyalists recaptured the important Talavera de la Reina sector, key to the southern door of Madrid, in Spain’s ongoing civil war. Two more cases of diagnosed infantile paralysis were reported in greater Winnipeg, involving a 12-year-old boy and a six-year-old boy, adding to five suspected cases. One Manitoba man was killed in an automobile accident and five others injured in mishaps over the weekend. Search our archives for more here.
