The Supreme Court of Canada is expected to deliver its ruling today on whether Peter Nygard should remain behind bars. The former fashion mogul was denied bail while awaiting an extradition hearing scheduled for November. Nygard is facing sex trafficking and racketeering charges in the U.S.

The five federal party leaders who met in the second French debate of the election last night will compete in the third and final debate of the campaign — this time in English — tonight at 8 p.m. CT.

The NFL regular season kicks off tonight, as quarterback Tom Brady and the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Dallas Cowboys. The season has been expanded to 17 games, giving fans an extra week to agonize over their favourite team, and their fantasy football rosters and Sports Select tickets.

U.S. President Joe Biden is set to outline a federal effort to increase COVID-19 vaccinations and slow the surging delta variant in a speech today.

As many as 150 Americans are set to leave Afghanistan on a Qatari flight today in the first large-scale evacuation since U.S. forces left the country at the end of August.

Ready for another removal: A time capsule from 1887 believed to be inside the base of a Confederate statue in Richmond, Va., is set to be removed. The statue, of Gen. Robert E. Lee, was removed Wednesday. The time capsule will be replaced with a new one that contains an expired vial of a COVID-19 vaccine and a Black Lives Matter sticker. The Associated Press reports. The British ambassador met with high-ranking Nazi Hermann Göring to discuss the autonomy rights of the German minority in Czechoslovakia.
