Good morning!

Your forecast: Environment Canada has issued a message this morning to the good people of Winnipeg. “An extended period of heat and humidity is expected, starting later today.” It seems a hot, humid air mass is moving in over much of southern Manitoba, giving us daytime temperatures in the 30s and extremely high humidity levels. Today, though, our high is 29 C and we could be in for thunderstorms late this afternoon and into the evening. On Wednesday, expect a mix of sun and cloud while the mercury soars to a very sticky 33 C, and then temperatures of 31 C under bright, blue skies on Thursday and Friday.

Re-examining herbicide ban: The Pallister government is reviewing a provincial ban on the non-essential use of herbicides — and some local lawn care professionals say the ban should be spiked. The legislation was brought in by the former NDP government and took effect in 2015. It restricts the sale and use of herbicides on lawns in the province, permitting only select, allowable herbicides for unrestricted use. Sustainable Development Minister Cathy Cox said the government is reviewing the cosmetic pesticide ban because of public pressure, although she would not be specific about the nature of the complaints she has received.
