Good morning!

Your forecast: March has come in like a lion, a snarly one, too. But we’ve got a forecast that should soothe the savage beast… er, breast. Indeed, the morning has some bite to it, with a temperature of -25 C at 6 a.m. and rising to just -13 C by mid day. A steady breeze of up to 15 km/h will make it feel like -33. On Wednesday, things warm slightly to -10 C under a mostly sunny sky, and it’s much the same for Thursday. Friday’s high is -6 C and on Saturday we could reach a high of 1 C.

The riding was previously held by the NDP’s Erin Selby, one of the so-called Gang of Five who challenged the leadership of Premier Greg Selinger. Selby is not running again.

Trumping Hillary: Many eyes will be the U.S. presidential primary race this evening for Super Tuesday, the multiple-state voting that is considered a solid indicator of campaigns that will eventually win. Democrat Hillary Clinton is buoyed by her win in South Carolina on Saturday. Donald Trump is the strongest Republican candidate, even as he tried to shake off a controversy for failing to disavow former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke during a recent interview. On Mar. 1, 1954: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that listeners of an Ottawa quiz show believed that clues leading to a prize of $2,500 pointed to Trade Minister and acting Prime Minister C.D. Howe, and callers were besieging Howe’s residence by phone. Mrs. Howe said their telephone had been ringing morning until night for the previous four weeks with callers asking “outrageously impertinent personal questions” about the acting prime minister’s private life.
