Environment Canada is calling for showers today, with amounts of 10-15 millimetres and a high of 7 C. Tonight, that rain could turn to snow as we dip to -1 C. On Wednesday, expect periods of rain or light snow and a high of 3 C, while Thursday should be another cloudy one with a high of just 2 C. The sunshine finally returns Friday but the temperature will only hit a high of 2 C.

Air Canada reaches deal in Winnipeg: The airline which outsourced a lot of maintenance jobs and found itself the target of a massive lawsuit announced Monday that Winnipeg will be its Centre of Excellence for maintenance. Quebec launched the suit, Manitoba jumped on board and the airline settled rather than go to court. The move means 150 new jobs for Manitoba. READ MORE
Change on the table for Manitoba: It seems few in Manitoba are warming up to the leaders of the two major parties in Manitoba, either NDP Premier Greg Selinger or Conservative leader Brian Pallister. That’s from the latest poll, commissioned by the Free Press, in advance of the election April 19. By the way, the poll also says voters will likely elect a majority Conservative government. READ MORE
Judge accused of impaired driving: A Manitoba judge who got pulled over on the weekend and charged for impaired driving found himself benched Monday. Judge Michel Chartier was officially put on administrative leave after Carberry RCMP laid charges. Now, his next court appearance will be his own — in Brandon on March 24. READ MORE

On Mar. 15, 1978: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Manitoba milk prices could rise nine cents per quart in the southern part of the province and 14.5 cents in the northern part. The Manitoba government, its corporations and its agencies were set to spur up to $500 million in construction works in the fiscal year beginning April 1. Plans for Canada Day festivities which were issued in English only caused a row since the festivities were meant to in part to overcome the threat to national unity posed by separatist sentiments in Quebec.
