On March 14, 1998: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Air Canada was going to build a call centre in the former Free Press building on Carlton Street, bringing 500 new jobs downtown. Winnipeg’s four faith-based health-care facilities refused to relinquish control to the new Winnipeg Hospital Authority, pitting them against the provincial government.
