Killed by police: A long-awaited inquest into the shooting death of a 26-year-old Winnipeg man began Monday. It’s been eight years since police shot Craig McDougall, saying he had a knife. Today, The Forks will unveil the winning designs for the warming huts that will grace the frozen river this year.
Bloody Harvest: A panel discussion tonight will showcase new findings on illegal organ harvesting occurring in China. Canada is currently reestablishing a relationship with China, yet there is no mention of this human rights violation. The discussion, in the Eckhardt Gramatté Hall at the U of W beginning at 7 p.m., is titled “Lifting the Veil of Secrecy: Organ Harvesting in China.”

Trouba’s back: Defenceman Jacob Trouba has signed a two-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets, ending an impasse which kept the 22-year-old out of NHL rinks so far this year. The Jets host the Dallas Stars tonight at the MTS Centre, but it’s unknown whether Trouba will play. It’s also unknown whether Jets fans will cheer or razz the hold-out hotshot. Podgy the pig: A city committee postponed a decision Monday on whether Podgy the pig can stay in Winnipeg as a service animal, instead of being evicted from the city as livestock. Podgy’s owner, Emily Sydor, relies on her pet to quell anxiety, says her father. “She has gone through some quite emotional times and the only thing that can bring her out is Podgy, her pot-bellied pig.” Aldo Santin reports.
