Deadly fire deemed accidental: A tragic house fire that killed four boys in southern Manitoba last winter was accidental, although the Manitoba fire commissioner’s office cannot determine an exact cause. Four brothers died in the overnight fire that destroyed their two-storey farmhouse in the community of Kane, located about 20 kilometres west of Morris, on Feb. 25. “The extent of the fire damage prevented efforts to determine with certainty the cause of the fire, despite months of interviews and investigative efforts,” the fire commissioner’s office said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon. Bobby, 15, Timmy, 12, Danny, 10, and Henry Froese, 9, died in the fire, while their mother and three siblings were able to escape. The four boys had been sleeping on the second-floor of the home when the fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. READ MORE

No saviours in sight for Bombers: Don’t expect someone to parachute in and save the day for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, even with No.1 quarterback Drew Willy out for up to two months with a serious leg injury. But which of the two backup QBs gets the starting job Friday night when the Bombers host the Toronto Argonauts is still anyone’s guess. Winnipeg was dumped 38-8 by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday to fall to 3-4 on the season. READ MORE
