Expect a cloudy Wednesday, with a 30 per cent chance of wet flurries early this morning and a risk of freezing rain. The high is 3 C. We could get some rain overnight, with light snow beginning around midnight, as the overnight low hits -1 C. The snow ends Thursday but the clouds stick around, and temperature falls to -3 C by mid-afternoon. We’ll see some sunshine Friday with a high of just -6 C, while it’s much the same Saturday and Sunday, with sun and highs of just -5 C and -3 C, respectivey.

Grey Cup glitch: Retired mechanic Charles Ritchot says an error by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in posting the winning numbers from the Grey Cup 50/50 ticket nearly cost him $178,748. Fortunately, Ritchot, 61, held onto his ticket and checked back with the Bombers. A 10-day mystery ended Tuesday with the correct number being posted by the Bombers and Ritchot collected the jackpot he initially thought was his — then didn’t — only to find out he’d won the game’s second-most coveted prize. Jets hit the runway: The Winnipeg Jets players took to the runway at the RBC Convention Centre on Tuesday night to model clothing in the inaugural NHLPA Fashion Show. The event was held in support of the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation as well as five local organizations chosen by the players, including The Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg, KidSport Winnipeg, Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, Marymound and Can DO People Inc. At Siloam Mission beginning at 2:10 p.m., players will help unload and sort donated clothing. Simultaneously, at Winnipeg Harvest, other Moose players will help volunteers sort donations of food.

Think Shift, an advertising agency based in Winnipeg, in partnership with North End Community Renewal Corp. and the Indigenous Family Centre has set up a pop-up shop in the city’s North End where youth and community members are invited to shop for free gifts for family and friends.
Pop-up shop: More than 400 people from North End families were patrons at a special pop-up store that was open for three hours at the Indigneous Family Centre on Selkirk Avenue on Tuesday night. The pop-up shop was arranged by the Winnipeg advertising agency Think Shift in partnership with North End Community Renewal Corp. and the Indigenous Family Centre. It was the second annual event at which community members were invited to shop for free gifts for their families and friends. People lined up early, outside the door and down the block, for a chance to browse the gift items. READ MORE
LaPo back with the Big Blue: It was a trip down memory lane for Bomber fans Tuesday as the club trotted out Paul LaPolice as their n ew offensive coordinator. It all seemed so familiar because it was. LaPolice was Winnipeg’s offensive co-ordinator in 2002 and 2003 and then its head coach from 2010 to the midway point of the 2012 season. Now, he’s back to fix the Bombers’ perennial troubles to put points on the board.
Cabbie wars: A rural taxi owner says Winnipeg’s two largest taxi companies are illegally encroaching on his territory, undercutting his rates and destroying his livelihood. Glen Phillips said Unicity and Duffy’s have been poaching his customers for years, but the situation has recently got worse. The operator of Lockport Taxi and its subsidiary, East St. Paul Taxi, says the city companies are “running me out of my area. They’re just ambushing me.” READ MORE

The RM or Portage was taking the Manitoba government to court after the province ordered the RM to make welfare payments to an Oakville family. A Winnipeg exotic dancer claimed she had been blackballed by city booking agents after filing a successful sexual harassment complaint with the Manitoba Human Rights Commission.
