Your forecast: The wind will sting a bit this morning, but hopefully the thought of a mild end to the week will help get you through. Environment Canada is calling for a wind chill of -26 as Winnipeggers hustle to work or school this morning. But the day will be mainly sunny, with an afternoon high of -11 C. Expect another sunny day Thursday and a high of -12 C, while Friday features a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -9 C. We’re in for a mild weekend, with a forecast high of -6 C Saturday and -8 C on Sunday.

Rich Man, Poor Man: Food security issues and refugee settlement are coming together for tonight’s fifth annual student-organized Rich Man Poor Man Dinner, hosted by the Manitoba Medical Students’ Association. Misogynist not welcome: Mayor Brian Bowman issued a statement that a man who writes a blog where he has promoted the rape of women is not welcome to hold a planned meeting in this city. Investigation bites police K9 unit: A veteran Winnipeg police officer is facing internal sanctions following a fraud investigation within the K9 unit. The officer, a senior member of the specialized K9 unit, allegedly billed close to $100,000 in overtime over three years for security work at the airport and the MTS Centre but it turned out he did not have the required bomb-sniffing validation for his dog — but the Winnipeg Police Service was led to believe he did. On Feb. 3, 1984: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the pilot of a Cessna 180 made a safe emergency landing on the Trans-Canada Highway near Ste. Anne. The pilot was on his way from Dryden to Winnipeg when he became concerned about the weather and began to look for a safe place to land. The president of Flyer Industries reiterated that a parts supplier’s shortage was behind the layoffs of up to 63 workers at Flyer’s bus manufacturing company, which could last up to 10 days or longer.
