Friendly felines looking for their ‘fur-ever’ home

Happy Monday!

When a pair of Winnipeg cats found themselves needing a temporary home a few months ago, Free Press Arts and Life editor Jill Wilson offered up her cozy two-bedroom condominium.

“As someone who lives alone — my beloved 19-year-old cat Noilly died in August — I missed being greeted at the door when I came home,” says Jill. “I had no wish to replace Noilly, as he was honestly irreplaceable, but I thought fostering would be a great way to fill that companionship need without long-term commitment.”

Now, after three months of happy cohabitation, the time has come to find the pair a less ephemeral home, as the cats’ owner will not be able to take them back.

“Well, the saddest day has arrived: it’s time to find a permanent home for my dream fosters, Toby and Daisy,” Jill wrote on her Facebook page. “I am trying to find someone who has room in their heart (and home) for these slightly larger-than-average siblings.”

Jill, a diligent copy editor whose many duties include writing Applause, a weekly newsletter about Winnipeg’s entertainment scene (subscribe here!), provided me and my colleagues with regular updates on her new roommates, who are both seven years old. She even went so far as to record Toby’s cacophonous purrs on her cell phone for everyone to hear.

Later, she told me that the gentle, black short-hair regularly curls up on her shoulder and purrs like a lawnmower for hours while Daisy, a “semi-chonky beauty,” loves to have her belly rubbed.

“If you stop too soon, she will gently encourage you to continue with a paw on your arm,” Jill writes.

As of today, Toby and Daisy are still fosters but Jill is hopeful that someone with a kind heart will take in the pair of friendly furballs soon!

Have a great week!
