Homicides at restaurant: Two people were dead after gunfire inside Johnny G’s restaurant at 172 Main St about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The tragic incidence brought back memories of a similar fatal shooting at the same restaurant in 2013 , when a 15-year-old member of the Mad Cowz street gang opened fire in a targeted hit. MP Ouellette apologizes: Winnipeg Liberal MP Robert-Falcon Ouellette regrets a calendar issued by his office. Why baby was seized: Details have emerged about the family of a newborn baby girl who was removed from her mother’s care in January, a traumatic event that was livestreamed from a St. Boniface hospital room, later reaching more than a million viewers on Facebook. What’s happening today

Siloam expands: The media will today get its first look inside Siloam Mission’s $19-million expansion. The 54,000-square-foot expansion will create up to 50 new shelter beds, including beds in a separate space for women. It will also create more space for mental health supports and transition services. Alexandra Paul will tour the facility and report.

Jets in Montreal: The Winnipeg Jets play in Montreal this evening, as part of a three-game road trip. The Jets are coming off a hard loss, getting beaten in overtime by the San Joe Sharks in Winnipeg on Tuesday. Mike McIntyre is in Montreal. READ MORE

On Feb. 7, 1952: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that young Queen Elizabeth II returned to her homeland and went to London to ascend the throne and bury her father, King George VI. She returned on a flight from Nairobi, Kenya, a week after leaving as Princess Elizabeth on what was to be a round-the-word five-month tour. The province of Manitoba had a surplus of $1.7 million for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1951.
