On March 7, 1944: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that residents of Winnipeg and elsewhere in the province were struggling to dig out from a blizzard that dropped five and a half inches of snow on the city. U.S. warplanes over Berlin downed 178 German aircraft, while U.S. bombers dropped 2,000 tons of bombs on the city. Britain’s first lord of the admiralty warned Parliament that Germany was preparing a new U-boat campaign. READ MORE
