Conciliation fails: Hopes for an end to the 13-day-old strike by University of Manitoba professors were dashed when conciliation ended unsuccessfully on Sunday. A statement by the university late in the day said conciliation with the University of Manitoba Faculty Association had ended. The statement also said the university wants UMFA to hold a ratification vote on the university’s current offer before Nov. 16. READ MORE

On Nov. 14, 1929: The Manitoba Free Press reported that a fire raging in a seminary in Trois Rivières, Que., caused a half a million dollars’ worth of damage; priests trapped on upper floors were rescued by firefighters.
