Governor General coming: David Johnston will be in Winnipeg Tuesday to present awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case to six recipients from across the country. The ceremony will be conducted this year in the chamber of the Manitoba Legislative Building to mark the 100th anniversary of Manitoba women receiving the right to vote. It will be only the second time in the history of the awards that the ceremony will be held outside of the Ottawa area. Larry Kusch reports. READ MORE

The fun begins at 11 a.m. at the Quad, adjacent to the Administration Building on the university’s Fort Garry campus.

Comedians include Lara Rae, the co-founder of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and Carole Cunningham. Who is Carole Cunningham? This is her social-media self-synopsis: “Comedian in the making, tall person, weird voice, children live with me, pets. On Nov. 11, 1918: The Manitoba Free Press reported that the Great War was over as armistice was declared. Revolution swept Germany as hostilities ceased; Kaiser Wilhelm Hohenzollern abdicated, fleeing the country, and was a fugitive in Holland, and a new coalition government began to take shape. Terms of the armistice were not released, but military sources indicated they included a complete cessation of hostilities by Germany, capitulation of military forces, and occupation by the victorious nations of key points in German territory and military bases to prevent hostilities from beginning again.
