Feminist, me?: When Churchill-Keewatinook Aski MP Niki Ashton compared #elbowgate to domestic violence, the Twitter-verse rightly exploded in response to her hyperbolic outrage. But as Shannon Sampert writes, Ashton’s condemnation of Justin Trudeau’s actions without recognizing NDP Leader Tom Mulcair’s role in all this is incredibly partisan. And her public chiding of Trudeau’s wife, who suggested earlier this month that she was feeling overwhelmed by demands on her time, certainly makes one question Ashton’s feminist leanings. READ MORE

Packed hospitals need solution: The WRHA says it is working to get patients fixed and out of the hospital, on time — there are national guidelines for this. But that’s been the story for the better part of two decades. Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen should recognize the cost to the patients and to the provincial treasury of hospital overcrowding and backlogs that make queues all the longer, and get busy on a fix, finally.

Pallister pretty popular: Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister is Canada’s second-most-popular premier, with the approval of 46 per cent of provincial residents, according to the Angus Reid Institute analysis of quarterly survey results from more than 5,000 Canadian adults, released Wednesday. In this ARI poll, only Saskatchewan’s Brad Wall scored higher than Pallister. READ MORE

May 25, 1979: Manitoba’s Court of Appeal ruled that an 1890 provincial law barring French in the Manitoba legislature, courts and schools, was invalid. The Manitoba government began an updated translation of laws.
