The Wrap: Departing MLAs, convoy crash plea, and planting Assiniboine Park’s gardens

Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:

Thirteen Progressive Conservative MLAs will not be returning for the next session of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. During their last week in the house, some spoke frankly with the Free Press about public service, governing during Manitoba’s worst health and economic crisis, and a growing sense of political discord.

David Zegarac, a prominent member of Winnipeg’s punk scene in the mid-2000s, admitted in court today to plowing his jeep through a crowd of people at a COVID-19 pandemic restrictions demonstration in front of the Manitoba legislature last year.

For green thumbs, it’s the dream job: Planning, designing and planting the tens of thousands of flowers and plants that fill the garden beds in Assiniboine Park each summer. We go digging in the dirt (not to be confused with digging for dirt) to gain understanding about the enormity of the work involved.
