Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew expects grocery stores will drop high food prices during a proposed fuel tax holiday — and warned that retailers who don’t can count on the government to take action.

Kinew did not explain what steps the NDP government would take to ensure the private businesses pass on a commensurate level of savings to their customers.

But in the short term, retailers will be saving money when the fuel tax is paused and consumers should too, he said.

Job postings for Winnipeg Transit’s community safety team were posted online this week.

The jobs involve intervening in conflicts, administering first-aid and trauma care and dealing with people who are “unsheltered or displaced, depressed, suicidal, suffering mental health issues and drug overdoses and psychosis.”

Officers will complete safety training and will meet the provincial requirement to be sworn as a peace officer in Manitoba.
