The Wrap: HSC moving into Manitoba Clinic, police-fire games cycling crash, Trudeau split, and ‘a wood Samaritan’

Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:

'Touch every corner'

The Health Sciences Centre Foundation is acquiring the half-empty Manitoba Clinic tower next door to make way for the reconstruction of adult hospital bed towers, parts of which are now more than 100 years old. Without the use of the 10-storey clinic building, the HSC would have had to build temporary homes for various patient programs, adding several years to the construction project.

'There's something a little bit meditative about it'

A city man has been donating his time, and his lathe, to making Woodies — wooden phalluses used by sex educators to demonstrate correct condom usage. “I described it to somebody as the silliest and most serious project I’ve ever had to work on,” says Jason Hooper.
