Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:

'Unacceptable level of risk'
An arbitrator’s decision handed down this week rules safety systems in place to protect employees outside the Health Sciences Centre are not sufficient.
The decision gives Shared Health 30 days to create a safety and security plan for areas outside the HSC campus.
The report includes evidence of “egregious instances of vandalism” and theft in parking areas, frightening encounters with strangers and an assault on a nurse.

'A brisk trade' in magic mushrooms
There was no magic escape from prosecution for a woman arrested after opening a shop that sold illegal psychedelic mushrooms in Osborne Village last spring.
Hosnia Qazi was handed a nine-month conditional sentence to be served under house arrest.
Magic Mush saw lineups down the block after it opened on the Osborne strip last May. The shop was open six days before it was raided by police.

'We have more in common than what makes us different'
Premier Wab Kinew is considering ways to ensure the brief comments at the start of the legislature’s daily proceedings take into account people of different faiths, atheists and those who believe in secularism.
Currently a prayer is read at the opening; it’s been in place since 1937 with only minor changes.
“We believe it’s time to update this opening to ensure it captures who we are as Manitobans today,” Kinew said.

'What you see is that momentum that just keeps building'
The sting of a heartbreaking Grey Cup loss for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers has been eased by a major boost to the bottom line — for a second consecutive year.
On Thursday, the Winnipeg Football Club announced an operating profit of $5.7 million in 2023. That’s an increase of nearly $1 million from 2022 — when the organization boasted record highs in gate revenue and team merchandise sales — and more than double the $2.8 million it made in 2021.

'Make sure you don’t have any dino chicken nuggets in your pockets'
The RBC Convention Centre was abuzz Thursday morning with crews unloading animatronic approximations of creatures from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. By noon tomorrow, the empty hall will be transformed into an ancient playground.
Jurassic Quest — a travelling North American exhibition — has rolled into Winnipeg with dozens of life-size dinos in tow, kicking off the prehistoric production’s 2024 Canadian tour.
