The Wrap: Hydro boss fired, strip mall tenants still closed after fire, divorce – without the court and Jennifer Jones calls it a career

Jay Grewal held down the top post at Manitoba Hydro for just over five years, having come to Winnipeg in 2019 after two years as president and CEO of the Northwest Territories Power Corp.

She was fired Tuesday morning by the Crown corporation’s board.

“She’s been with us for a while, and sometimes when you’re embarking on something new and fresh, a fresh perspective is needed,” Ben Graham, chairman of the Manitoba Hydro Electric Board, told the Free Press.

Yellow caution tape blocks access to Claire Andrada-Laurente’s business. The tape runs past Bluebell Health in both directions, spanning the length of an entire strip mall.

“I’m so stressed,” Andrada-Laurente said Tuesday, a day after a fire in the Keewatin Street building that houses her massage therapy business.

The blaze was primarily in Gill’s Supermarket, but restaurants, a hair studio, medical clinic, pharmacy, Autopac outlet and clothing retailers are out of commission.
