The Wrap: Landfill blockade, blood donations for dogs, and the BDI’s architecture

Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:

Protesters at the Brady Road landfill defied a municipal order to clear their barricade by noon today. The City of Winnipeg could seek legal action to restore access to the dump.

Did you know dogs need blood transfusions during medical treatment, just like humans do? The Canadian Animal Blood Bank collects donations of blood products for our furry friends, and it was founded right here in Manitoba. Summer intern Cierra Bettens explains how it works.

And: The Bridge Drive-In is many Winnipeggers’ go-to spot for a summer treat. For her regular series Landmarks, Alison Gillmor looks at the retro-futuristic architecture of the building — it puts the Goog in Googie. (Readers with expertise in both architecture and local frozen desserts just chortled.)
