Bird Construction Group has filed suit against the Assiniboine Park Conservancy and the City of Winnipeg for more than $16.8 million it claims it is owed for construction management services during the build of Canada’s Diversity Gardens, including the Leaf building.

Bird’s lawsuit is at least the fifth legal action over the Leaf’s construction.

Clarence Woodhouse, 72, was granted bail Monday after his lawyers argued he was wrongfully convicted and should be let out pending a federal review of the case.

Nearly 50 years ago, Woodhouse sat in the same Winnipeg courthouse as he and two other men were convicted in the brutal stabbing murder of Ting Fong Chan, a restaurant worker and father.

The two other men were exonerated in July.
