In late March, David Frank Burling walked out of a Manitoba jail with a police bullet lodged in his lower back and a ban on driving for five years.

On Wednesday, he was the subject of an intense manhunt in two provinces after a wild police chase through rural Manitoba and into Saskatchewan.

The chaos resulted in Winnipeg police fatally shooting a man in a stolen vehicle in Otterburne after it rammed into their cruiser.

After the shots were fired, Burling allegedly drove off and ditched the truck and the dying passenger at a gas station in Niverville. He’s then accused of stealing an SUV and driving to Saskatchewan, where he was put in handcuffs by Mounties nearly 12 hours later.

One day after psychiatrist Dr. Sohom Das, testifying for the defence, told court Jeremy Skibicki suffers from schizophrenia and meets the criteria for being found not criminally responsible for killing four women in his North Kildonan apartment, McMaster University psychiatry professor Dr. Gary Chaimowitz told court his interviews with Skibicki and review of his police interview, medical history, and other documentation provided no evidence to support either claim.
