'I always want to be on my phone'
Manitoba is the latest province to restrict the use of cellphones in classrooms, beginning this school year.
Kindergarten to Grade 8 students are being barred from using phones at any point in the school day, including during lunch and recess.
High schoolers can access their devices on breaks and when a classroom teacher explicitly approves usage for educational purposes.

'We're doubling our program'
The University of Manitoba is expanding its clinical psychology program this fall in an effort to boost the number practising in the province, where the per capita rate of clinical psychologists is the lowest in the country.
The number of seats in the U of M’s masters and doctoral clinical psychology program has been increased to 12 for September, up from eight in previous years, with a plan to expand the to 16 seats next fall.
There are 226 registered psychologists in the province, and a quarter of them are more than 60 years old, reports Erik Pindera.

Yoga Public’s ownership joined the Manitoba Métis Federation Thursday afternoon, announcing classes would restart on Fort Street Sept. 14.
The centre, which originally opened in 2011, closed amid the pandemic. Now, 11 staff are preparing to offer around 50 classes weekly.

Winnipeg’s Streat Feast Festival, now in its second year, was born out of a desire to showcase the city’s rich culinary diversity and foster a sense of community.
The festival, which runs Friday through Sunday at The Forks, highlights local food vendors and provides a platform for cultural performances, live music and educational programming.
