Romeo Saganash was arrested by Winnipeg police on June 27 last year over an allegation the former NDP MP sexually touched a woman at a meeting on May 1, 2023.

A sexual assault charge was stayed against the Cree lawyer, who represented the riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou in northern Quebec from 2011 to 2019, in a Winnipeg court on Tuesday.

The sex assault charge was referred to the provincial justice department’s restorative justice programming last October.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Ernest Rady says he is “hurt and  appalled” by remarks on the war in Gaza made by a graduating doctor in his valedictory address last week.

New graduate Gem Newman called for a ceasefire in Palestine at the Max Rady College of Medicine’s convocation ceremony during a speech some described as “divisive and inflammatory.”

In a letter to U of M officials, Rady, who donated $30 million to the medical school in 2016, condemned Newman and the university for “spewing hateful lies.”

A police analyst tasked with going through Jeremy Skibicki’s computer found internet searches about missing persons, DNA, destroying fingerprints, and what it means to be a serial killer.

Riley Johansson told a murder trial that he traced months of online searches made on Skibicki’s computer around the same time he killed four Indigenous women in 2022. The analysis was undertaken to try to identify his victims.

Skibicki’s lawyers admit he killed the women but argue he’s not criminally responsible due to mental illness.

All three restaurants are in an area in which the median household income is less than $50,000.

Instead of ignoring the social challenges that exist beyond their front doors, the respective business owners have invited their vulnerable neighbours in for a meal.
